High School Library Policy

Using the Library at SHHS

The library is available for students to use during school hours. Students not accompanied by a staff member must obtain a pass from their class. All students must wear their ID badge on a lanyard at all times. Students are expected to sign in and sign out on the laptops located by the entrance.

While in the library, students are required to follow the Shaker code of conduct. Students are expected to:

  1. Be doing something productive.
  2. Be doing it in a way that allows others to be productive.
  3. Be respectful of other people and property. As a reminder, showing respect for other people in a library setting includes avoiding behaviors such as: eating, using profanity, conversing in loud, outdoor voices and the inappropriate use of property.
  4. Ask for help when needed — we are happy to assist you.

Checkouts

Students have the option to borrow a maximum of 6 items concurrently. The standard loan duration for the majority of library materials is three weeks. Students have the convenience of renewing their items in person at the library.

Overdues

Every month, overdue notices are given to students. While fines are not charged for overdue items, students are strongly encouraged to return items by the due date so that other students may also check out the items.

Lost/Damaged Materials

If a student loses any library item, the replacement cost will be charged to their student account. Occasionally, items are lost and compensated for, only to be found later. In the event that the paid for item is returned to the library within 90 days, the cost of the book will be reimbursed to the student's family.

If a student brings back a library item that is damaged, the replacement cost will be billed to the student’s account.
